An attack claimed by Kiev against factories in the region russian of Tatarstan left 13 injured this Tuesday, 2, in what appears to be the deepest attack in the Ukraine within Russian territory since the beginning of the war. Images circulating on social media show a plane heading towards Russian facilities and then exploding.

According to The Telegraph, the attack appears to have been carried out with a light, unmanned plane loaded with explosives for a drone assembly factory. A source from the Ukrainian Defense sector told AFP that “it was an operation by the GUR”, the country’s military intelligence service, which has already claimed attacks of this type against Russian factories or refineries.

“It was a GUR operation, an attack with Ukrainian drones against a Shahed drone assembly company. Significant damage was inflicted on the site,” said the source, who did not specify whether the attack was carried out from Russian or Ukrainian territory.

The press department of Tatar leader Rustam Minnikhanov reported on Telegram that “drone attacks against factories in Tatarstan, in Yelabuga and Nizhnekamsk” were recorded. The attacks “did not cause considerable damage or affect the work of the factories,” the statement added. Tatarstan’s Ministry of Health reported 13 people injured.

According to the The Telegraphthe “drone plane” attack in Russia’s Tatarstan region hit a building believed to contain dormitories for workers near the drone assembly plant.

The Tatarstan region is located more than 1,100 kilometers from the border with Ukraine. Ukraine regularly carries out drone attacks or sabotage against factories, railways and refineries on Russian territory, but it is rare for an attack to affect infrastructure so far from the border.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov said the Russian military “is striving to minimize and completely eliminate the threat” of Ukrainian attacks on Russia./With AFP.
