Voting ballot was approved this Tuesday (Photo: Ana Laura Baldo/Apufsc)

The Extraordinary General Assembly held this Tuesday morning, the 30th, by Apufsc-Sindical, began deliberations on whether or not the teaching category at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) would join the strike. Until this afternoon, 37 entities representing professors at federal universities in the country had approved the strike. Another 13 rejected, but seven of them scheduled new general assemblies after the last round of the negotiation table. At the beginning of April, Apufsc-Sindical had already put the matter to a vote. At that time, the majority of members rejected the strike. Now, the matter has returned to the agenda following a request from 5% of union members.

At this Tuesday’s meeting, participants decided on the voting ballot. It will ask the following question: “Are you in favor of UFSC professors joining the national teaching strike from May 7, 2024?” The answer options will be “yes”, “no” and “blank”. Voting is online, starting at 4pm this Tuesday and going until 4pm on Friday the 3rd.

If the strike is approved by the majority of voters, the union has 72 hours to notify the Rectory and other parties involved before starting the strike, as provided for in the Strike Law. Therefore, the scheduled start date is May 7th. Read more on the Apufsc website.
