Considered the oldest man in the world by Guinness World Records, Venezuelan Juan Vicente Pérez Mora died this Tuesday (2), aged 114. The information was confirmed by the governor of Táchira, in Venezuela, Freddy Bernal and the cause of death was not disclosed.

Mora would have celebrated his birthday next month, and his death had repercussions among important authorities in his home country. “Juan Vicente Pérez Mora transcended into eternity at the age of 114 […] He gave Venezuela the Guinness Record for being the oldest man in the world”, said the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro.

Born on May 27, 1909, in the city of El Cobre, in the state of Táchira, Moro worked throughout his life as a farmer.”At the age of five, he began working with his father and brothers in agriculture, helping to harvest sugar cane and coffee,” Guinness said.

In the region where he lived he was known as “Uncle Vicente”, he had 11 children, more than 40 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Record

In February 2022, Mora was officially confirmed as the oldest man alive. At the time he was 112 years old. With the death of the Venezuelan, the oldest man in the world becomes the Japanese writer, Gisaburo Sonobe, aged 112.

Longevity Secret

As soon as he was recognized by Guinness, Mora gave interviews talking about the secret to his longevity. “Hard work, rest on holidays, going to bed early, drinking a glass of burning water every day, loving God and always carrying him in your heart”, he pointed out as the formula for a long life.
