Extinction of humans already has a date predicted by scientists

New research carried out by scientists at the University of Bristol, England, used climate models from a supercomputer to simulate conditions on our planet in the future. The goal was to point out when the Earth will face the next mass extinction. Spoiler: the result was quite grim.

Formation of a supercontinent and the end of humanity

  • According to research, climate extremes will be dramatically intensified when continents merge to form a hot, dry and largely uninhabitable supercontinent called Pangea Ultima.
  • According to scientists, this will be one of the consequences of global warming.
  • The work was published in the journal Nature Geoscience and used climate models, simulating trends in temperature, wind, rain and humidity.
  • To estimate future carbon dioxide levels, the team used tectonic plate movement models, ocean chemistry and biology to map CO₂ inflows and outflows.
  • The information is from O Globo.

Human extinction will be inevitable

Researchers claim that the formation of the supercontinent will lead to intense tectonic processes. This means that there will be constant and strong volcanic eruptions, producing large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and further warming the planet.

CO₂ levels could reach double current levels (which are already considered high). At the same time, the Sun would emit about 2.5% more radiation. The Earth will become an extremely hostile environment, devoid of food and water sources for mammals.

The study predicts that temperatures on the planet will be between 40°C and 70°C, combined with high levels of humidity. These climatic conditions would make it impossible for humans and other species to dissipate intense heat through sweat. Ultimately, it would be impossible to survive.

But when would that happen? Predictions indicate that the supercontinent Pangea Ultima will form within the next 250 million years. And it will be the one that triggers the most extreme effects.

Well, you must be imagining that this is plenty of time for humanity. However, the researchers state that this model indicates when there will be no longer any possibility of survival, which does not mean that until then the conditions will be good for maintaining life on Earth. This happens because the effects of global warming are increasingly felt.

In other words, the study predicts when the end of humanity will occur. But it is not ruled out that this could end up happening sooner due to the impacts caused by climate change on Earth.
