Tobías is a 9-year-old golden retriever who was saved by a group of animal protectors after his owner tried to kill him. The 51-year-old woman went to a butcher’s shop and asked if they could slaughter the dog. The case took place in La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

After the incident, the woman ended up at the police station and said that the slaughter was a “country custom”. She also told the butcher shop employees that Tobías only had a few days to live and, therefore, wanted them to carry out the work of slaughtering the animal, which did not present any terminal pathology.

“I don’t understand what the problem is. Let me explain. My father and grandfather are from the countryside. They always worked at the hippodrome. When the horse reaches a certain age, it is sent to slaughter,” said the woman when questioned by one of the rescuers.

They were even more amazed when she explained what she meant by “slaughter”. “It’s like a cow. First you remove the skin, then skin it and use the meat. This is done to animals.” And she added: “I saw that he was old enough… he IS a good dog, he poops well, he has good teeth.”

Complaint

The intervention was carried out by a group of protective neighbors in the region, police officers and the rescuers themselves, who went to the woman’s house and picked up Tobías.

The dog was placed in a transport cage and taken to the police station, where a report of animal abuse was registered. At that time, the woman, who also came to the police station, said: “Goodbye, Toto”.
