‘Frustrating’, laments Gloria Pires about ‘Desejos de Mulher’, a failed soap opera that arrives on Globoplay

The arrival of ‘Desejos de Mulher’ on Globoplay, this Monday, the 25th, brings a range of comments from the soap opera’s own members about the production in general. Shown by the Resgate project, in which the platform makes old serials available, ‘Desejos de Mulher’ is a soap opera by Euclydes Marinho that has never been re-aired on open TV or on Viva since its debut in 2002.

In the plot, Regina Duarte, who today collects paper for her works of art, plays the protagonist Andréa, a successful fashion designer who discovers that she is not her parents’ biological daughter. The revelation came from the hands of Julia Moreno, playing Gloria Pires, the veteran’s younger sister, who, in a moment of fight in the first chapter, triggers the revelation.

At the time, Gloria Pires, whose husband Orlando Morais is being charged in court for IPTU debts, confessed that she was disappointed with the soap opera, mainly because she expected good times with Regina Duarte, who was her mother in the classic ‘Vale Tudo’, whose remake should be carried out in 2025.

“Over time, artistic frustration arose. I waited and longed for that reunion with Regina Duarte and the [diretor] Dennis Carvalho. I thought we would have great scenes, like in Vale Tudo. But nothing happened. Everything was wasted and atrophied”, declared the actress in the book ’40 anos de Glória’.

“Júlia was frustrating, but it wasn’t a despicable job. I got some good moments and cool scenes. It just didn’t live up to my expectations and, I believe, not even those of the public”, she lamented.

Author of ‘Women’s Desires’ also regrets story

The author of the story Euclydes Martinho also feels bitter about the unfolding of the novel, which he hoped would make it a classic. The novelist considers that much of the failure is due to himself. “I wasn’t in a position to take the field. Emotionally, affectively, I was going through a confusing moment. I was separating, living in a hotel. My life was a mess,” he said in a statement to the book Autores.

“With each chapter, the soap opera had a different face. It became something completely crazy. The characters had no legs, they did one thing every day. I tried everything. It was crazy, very, very stressful”, he reported.
