Before finding fame in Tolkien’s trilogy, the actor participated in a medical series.
He gave life to the elf Legolas in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, he wielded swords alongside Jack Sparrow in the acclaimed – to a certain extent – Pirates of the Caribbean saga and started a war in Troy: even though he is a little missing from cinemas compared to the 2000s, British actor Orlando Bloom remains a true star – but it wasn’t always like that.
A first role at 17
Before his face became internationally known thanks to JRR Tolkien’s famous character, Bloom began his career with small steps. In 1996, the young actor, just 17 years old, began his journey as an actor on television, participating in the medical series Casualty – which also featured young Tom Hiddleston, Kate Winslet and Martin Freeman.
In an episode titled Another Day in Paradise (Another Day in Paradise, in English), Orlando played a worker admitted to the hospital with a serious arm injury. He also revisited the character in two other episodes of the series before playing his first role on the big screen in 1997, in the biopic Wilde led by Stephen Fry.
After graduating in theater at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, in London, the young actor decided to try his luck by participating in the casting tests for the gigantic project directed by Peter Jackson. Having initially carried out the test to interpret FaramirBloom ended up receiving an even more important role: that of the legendary elf Legolasfull member of the Fellowship of the Ring, which was his kickstart to a career that many actors dream of.
