Brazil has a very diverse cuisine, however, it is undeniable that Brazilians’ favorite dish is rice and beans. White grain is found daily in homes in our country, being one of the most consumed foods here. However, the brand we will talk about today had to be banned due to contamination and health risks.

And as we had already mentioned, it was in January 2017 that a specific batch of rice from the ‘Favorito’ brand was banned from sale and distribution by Anvisa. According to information from the ‘Jornal da Paraíba’ portal, the measure was only applied to batch 00204. This validity would end on February 25th of that same year.

The prohibition

The reason for the ban and withdrawal of the product from the markets was the detection of contamination by rat excrement after laboratory tests, which could cause risks to the health of consumers. Thus, Anvisa’s determination was officially published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) on January 2, 2017.
