The lunar cycle refers to the different phases the Moon goes through as it orbits the Earth. The Moon does not emit its own light, but rather reflects light from the Sun. As the Moon orbits the Earth, we see different parts of its surface illuminated by the Sun.

The complete cycle of phases, from the beginning of one phase to the beginning of the same phase next, lasts about 29.5 days, known as a lunar month or synodic month. However, it is important to note that this period may vary slightly due to various influences, such as the star’s elliptical orbit around the Earth and the gravitational influences of other celestial bodies.

During this period, it goes through four main phases (new, growing, full and waning), and each one lasts for approximately seven days.
