O Santos breathes a sigh of relief after reaching an agreement with Argentinos Jrs. on Tuesday night (7), thus avoiding FIFA’s third “transferban” this season. The club committed to paying off the financial debt for the signing of midfielder Gabriel Carabajal, made in 2022, in three installments. The initial information is from the Trivela portal and was confirmed by DIÁRIO.

The Argentine club charged an amount of R$3 million that was still outstanding from the purchase made by Peixe, which totaled around R$8 million, also in installments. However, in contact with DIÁRIO last week, the Santos board already expressed tranquility regarding this situation, as it was negotiating with the board of Argentinos Jrs.

Although Gabriel Carabajal still belongs to Santos, he is on loan at Puebla, in Mexico. At Peixe, he played just 12 times, scoring one goal and providing no assists. In 2023, the club loaned the midfielder to Vasco, but in the middle of the relationship with the Rio team, the Santos board agreed to transfer the player to Mexico.

Currently, the Santos board is alert regarding player purchases in installments made by the previous management of Andres Rueda, in order to avoid the risk of new notifications. The most notable cases include Soteldo, bought from Tigres (MEX) and loaned by Santos to Grêmio, and Jean Lucas, acquired from Monaco and later sold by Peixe to Bahia.

Earlier this year, Santos was penalized by FIFA due to debts owed to former Argentine coach Fabián Bustos and failure to pay for the signing of Christian Cueva from Krasnodar, Russia, in 2019. The payment to Bustos totaled around R$4 .7 million, while for Krasnodar there will be three installments, totaling R$ 22.7 million.
