UFC commentator and former two-division champion, Daniel Cormier broke the silence about the game with takedowns in grappling with Alex Poatan what went viral on social media during the week of UFC 301which took place in Rio de Janeiro, last Saturday (4).

Despite not taking part in the event due to a foot injury, Poatan was present and had a relaxed moment with Cormier, known for his acidic comments about the grappling of the current UFC light heavyweight champion (up to 93kg).

According to the commentator, the idea was to ‘make fun’ of Poatan, just as he did in training with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

“It’s strange, right? I play with these guys and end up taking a fall. There was a time when they thought Khabib could take me down in a serious fight, but it’s all part of the show. You know, Chael, we always put the guy who is active on top. What do I gain by tearing down the Alex Poatan? It doesn’t work like that, Chael”, declared the former fighter in an interview with Chael Sonnen to ESPN.

The video in question was published by UFC on social media. Poatan took Daniel Cormier to the ground after joking with the North American about grappling positions. The mock finish ended in laughter, but sparked debate among fans on social media.
