Rome Italy) – After passing the two qualifying rounds, Thiago Monteiro debuts this Wednesday at the Masters 1000 in Rome. The number 2 in Brazil and 106th in the world faces the experienced 37-year-old Frenchman Gael Monfils, 38th in the rankings, at around 9 am on the Pietrangeli court, one of the most beautiful on the circuit.
Monteiro leads the record of clashes against Monfils by 2-1. He won on the clay of Quito in 2018 and also on the hard court of Adelaide at the beginning of 2022. The Frenchman’s only victory came at Roland Garros, in the 2017 season. Without the top seeds on the court, the men’s round will still feature names like former top 10 Denis Shapovalov, Fabio Fognini.
For the WTA 1000 in Rome, the highlight is two Grand Slam champions who will play in the main stadium. Japan’s Naomi Osaka faces France’s Clara Burel at 8am. And next, it will be North American Sofia Kenin’s turn to play against Italian Lucia Bronzetti.
