Rio Grande do Sul is experiencing chaos due to the rains that hit the entire state until the weekend. The challenger 50 tournament, held by Instituto Sports at Associação Leopoldina Juvenil, managed to be completed, thanks to the structure of the century-old club that houses five covered courts and also the efforts of the organization.

Tennis players, staff and journalists had flights canceled due to the floods that caused flooding and the closure of Salgado Filho airport in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre.

The organization had to find a solution and chartered a bus that took all the athletes who were still there this Sunday, such as the finalists Daniel Silva and the champion, Turkish Ergi Kirkin, as well as all the organization’s staff, referees and journalists. for the next competition, in Santos (SP), which is from the same organization and which has the main draw starting this Monday.

It was a successful 18-hour journey due to a shortcut found by the driver through the city of Alvorada to avoid flooding in the metropolitan region that closed several roads.

Information obtained by Tênis News shows that the road where the bus passed on Sunday had to be closed this Monday after another dike burst, in Sarandi, which flooded the area.

Sources interviewed by the website reported that the chaos in Porto Alegre was only getting worse. Both the restaurant at the event club and the hotel had almost no food left, there were few options in the supermarkets.

The bus trip was the only alternative for holding the Santos tournament since all the staff and referees were at the Rio Grande do Sul event.
