Goodbye, Nike? Brazilian team receives offer of R$1 billion, says columnist < No Attack

The oldest sponsor of the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), Nike will have strong competition to renew its contract with the highest national football entity. The current agreement runs until 2026 and two other traditional sports equipment companies are eyeing a future partnership: Adidas and Puma. One of them even offered a contract worth R$1 billion per year to supply the Brazilian team’s shirts and other items. This is what columnist Rodrigo Mattos, from UOL.

“CBF received a proposal worth almost R$1 billion per year to replace Nike as its supplier of sports equipment for the Brazilian team. There are two companies that have expressed interest to the confederation in taking on the yellow jersey: Adidas and Puma. One of the two made the offer, the blog was unable to find out which one”, reported Mattos.

Also according to the columnist, the contract between Nike and CBF is worth approximately R$177 million per year. Therefore, the company that made the new proposal intends to pay around five times more to stamp its brand on the Brazilian team.

“One of the points of the new proposal is the payment of royalties on the sale of national team shirts. Furthermore, the offer includes the opening of stores and participation in sales. Nike currently does not transfer any of the shirt sales to the CBF, nor does it set up stores,” he reported.

Nike and the Brazilian team have had an agreement since 1996.

Brazil’s next games

The Brazilian team, led by coach Dorival Júnior, will return to play on June 8, in the United States, when they will face Mexico, in a friendly match.

On the 12th of the same month, Brazil will face the United States, in another friendly game. Still in June, the Brazilian team will compete in the Copa América in the North American country. The team is in Group D, alongside Costa Rica, Paraguay and Colombia.
