Anapoima (Colombia) -Carolina Meligeni Alves’ great week at the ITF W35 in Anapoima, played on clay courts in Colombia, ended with runner-up. In this Sunday’s decision, the number 3 in Brazil and 349th in the world was overcome by the Russian Daria Lodikova, 355th placed in the WTA and fourth pre-classified in the competition, in a very tough game lasting 2h37, falling with the partials of 6/4, 4/6 and 6/4.

This was Carol’s second final in 2024, after the title won at W15 in São João da Boa Vista, in March. Also on the Colombian clay, the 28-year-old from São Paulo had already obtained a good result with the semifinal at the W35 de Mosquera last week. Encouraged, she continued to collect great victories in Anapoima and only conceded 16 games in the first four games.

With the defeat, the tennis player from Campinas loses the chance to win the eighth and biggest title of her career. She currently has two W10 level trophies, four W15 level trophies and one W25 level trophies. On the other hand, the 23 points from the final on Colombian clay could help gain ground in the rankings, but will only be counted on May 20th, after the end of the WTA 1000 in Rome. Provisionally, the Brazilian is rising 20 positions, based on last week’s results in Mosquera, reaching 329th place.

In turn, champion Lodikova lifts her eighth and most important trophy, after seven tournament titles at W15 level. She will have 35 points that today could give her the best ranking of her career. However, the current 355th in the world will lose seven positions in this Monday’s update due to having seven points deducted from last year and Anapoima’s score will only be included in two weeks’ time. Her personal record is 346th in January.
