Anderson Rodrigues is the new coach of the under-21 men’s volleyball team. The Olympic champion in Athens 2004 was invited by the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) to lead the team, whose main objective this season is the South American Championship, a qualifying competition for the 2025 World Cup. Anderson replaces Guilherme Novaes, who asked to leave the position for personal reasons.

“Guilherme informed us of his decision not to continue leading the under-21 team. We respect this choice and the CBV doors are open to him. Anderson has a lot of experience in training and transitioning young athletes, and has already worked with Bernardinho as a player and as a coach. CBV seeks integrated work between all categories and Anderson fits this profile. He was a winning athlete and has built a successful career as a training coach”, says Jorge Bichara, technical director at CBV.

Anderson is in his fourth season as coach of Sesi Bauru, which has young Brazilian volleyball talents such as opposite Darlan, striker Lukas Bergmann and central Thiery. He is also the coordinator of the project’s base teams. Anderson also helped prepare the men’s team for the Rio Games in 2016.

“I am honored by this invitation from CBV. We want to bring hegemony back to the base of Brazil. I have Bernardo as one of my career mentors and it will be great to work with him around. This unification of work is essential for results to appear at the base. The objective is to reveal talents for the next Olympic cycles. It is a work of continuity. We will seek the technical, physical and mental evolution of these athletes”, says Anderson.

Guilherme Novaes, from São Paulo, resigned as coach of the under-21 team after two years. “After much reflection, I made the difficult decision not to continue my work as coach of the under-21 men’s team. The decision was made with the aim of having more time with my family, being closer to my wife and children, which I consider fundamental at this moment. I will continue doing what I love, which is working with volleyball. I would be honored to join the Brazilian team again and represent our country in the future, if I have the opportunity. I thank all the professionals who accompanied me on this journey, managers, employees and athletes. I’m still in the crowd”, concludes Guilherme Novaes.

The coaches of the other youth categories continue to be Fofão (female under-17), Marcelo Zenni (male under-17), Guilherme Schmitz (female under-19), Luiz Carlos Kadylac (male under-19) and Wagão (under-21 feminine).
