Cruzeiro: Court authorizes blocking of Wagner Pires and Itair Machado accounts

The Minas Gerais court responded to Cruzeiro’s request and determined the blocking of more than R$800,000 in the accounts of Itair Machado, Wagner Pires de Sá and João Sérgio Ramalho‘João da Umbro’, partner of the company Veloz e Moraes Negócios e Consultoria Ltda, responsible for managing goalkeeper Fábio, currently at Fluminense-RJ.

According to Marcos Lincoln Padilha dos Santos, legal superintendent of the Cruzeiro association, the decision was handed down on April 23 by judge Cláudia Costa Cruz, from the 5th civil court of Belo Horizonte and published on Friday night (3/5 ) by the Official Gazette of the State of Minas Gerais.

What is the process?

The process refers to the renewal of goalkeeper Fábio’s contract, signed on November 20, 2018. At the time, an agreement was signed that provided for the payment of R$900,000 to Veloz e Moraes as a commission for expanding the relationship with Fábio . On that occasion, Cruzeiro was represented by Wagner (president) and Itair Machado (deputy for football) at the settlement.

However, after the disclosure of administrative irregularities and a police investigation into the management of Wagner Pires, Fábio gave a statement to the police and claimed that the contract renewal was agreed directly with Itair Machado at Toca da Raposa II and without the presence of an intermediary.

To the report of TEMPO Sports, Dr. Marcos Lincoln explained that the compensation action was filed in 2021 by the Association, which filed a request for free justice due to the financial crisis that Cruzeiro was going through:

“The association was unable to obtain free justice and therefore, only now in April 2024, the judge analyzed the action and granted the request to block goods and assets from the accounts of Wagner, João and Itair. That is why the delay for the decision was published.”, said Marcos Lincoln.

In this injunction, judge Cláudia Costa Cruz asked for the blocking of bank accounts, financial investments and vehicles that are in the name of the defendants. According to Dr. Marcos Lincoln Padilha dos Santos, legal director of the Cruzeiro association, the decision is not final and can be appealed by those investigated.

When contacted by O TEMPO Sports, João Sérgio Ramalho, partner at Veloz e Moraes, said he was outside Brazil and did not want to comment on the case.

The former president of Cruzeiro, Wagner Pires de Sá, and Itair Machado, the club’s former football vice-president, were also contacted by the report on several telephone numbers, but there was no response until the closing of this article.
