Max leaves ‘door open’ to Mercedes when talking about Newey outside RBR

-

Recent times have been turbulent for Red Bull at Formula 1 off the tracks, and the confirmed departure of Adrian Newey it was just another drop in the bucket for Max Verstappenwhich, at one point, seemed to be almost overflowing.

When the Dutchman was asked if the departure of the British genius from Red Bull could lead him to move on, his answer was clear: “At the moment, no. I think the press is making up a lot of things because they don’t understand how functions work within the team”.

When insisting on a possible contract with Mercedes, the three-time champion made it clear what is most important to him in relation to a possible change of team: “Money will not be the difference for me to go somewhere. I am happy with what I have already I’m winning, it’s a question of performance, Toto knows that too.”

“We just need to have the fastest car, that’s what I’ve always demanded and that’s what we’ve had for a few years. And we have a very strong technical team who have been part of the team for a long time. So yes, basically everything continues as before , at this moment I can say that I want to stay on the team because I believe in the project we have with everyone involved. But at the end of the day, in sports, but also in life, you don’t know what will happen in the future.”

Verstappen also acknowledged Newey’s important role in the Milton Keynes team’s success, although he said his role in the F1 team is no longer as relevant as in previous years.

“Of course Adrian, since arriving at Red Bull, has been incredibly important to the success of the team, but over time his role has changed a bit and I think a lot of people don’t understand what he actually does now. I’m not saying that he wasn’t doing anything [em termos de F1]but his role has evolved”, explained the three-time world champion.

Looking to the future, #33 has the greatest confidence in the entire technical team that remains at Red Bull and which had already become more important in the creation and development of the car in recent years.

“A lot of good people have joined the team and strengthened this entire department, but of course I would prefer him to stay because we can always count on his experience and as a person he is also a great person to talk to. I am very confident that The technical team we have, apart from Adrian, is very strong and they have basically shown in recent years how competitive this car is.”

“From the outside it looks very dramatic, but I think if you really know what’s going on inside the team, it’s not as dramatic as it seems.”
