The UFC event in Las Vegas this Saturday was just one of the smaller cards held at the company’s headquarters, the Apex. However, accidentally, it ended up becoming historic when, for the first time, a woman announced fights inside the Octagon.

The honor went to journalist Charly Arnolt, 36 years old. An occasional ring announcer for professional wrestling event WWE, she was on hand at the Apex to conduct interviews with fighters for the UFC’s American broadcast. There was no plan to launch her as an announcer in the octagon.

However, it ended up being used as an emergency plan to replace Joe Martinez, holder of events held at Apex (currently, Bruce Buffer saves himself for the most important events on the calendar). After announcing the entire preliminary card and the start of the main card, Martinez began to get hoarse and lose his voice.

Arnolt was then called in a hurry to announce the result of the fight between Karine Silva and Ariane Lipski da Silva, the third-to-last on the schedule. She also introduced the co-main event, between Ryan Spann and Bogdan Guskov, and announced the result of the match, before Martinez returned for the main event. Still, it was possible to notice some flaws in the owner’s voice.
