CONMEBOL confirmed this Saturday (27) when the draws for the round of 16 clashes of the Libertadores and the South American. The entity scheduled the event for June 3rd, a Monday, at 1 pm (Brasília time).
The draws will also define the seeding until the finals. The Libertadores decision will be played in Argentina, in Buenos Aires, on November 30th, in a single game, as has been the case since 2019; that of the Sul-Americana, in Paraguay, in Asunción, on the 23rd of the same month, in the same format.
The two competitions have not yet defined who will qualify for the round of 16. Both will start the fourth round of the group stage.
In the Libertadores, the two best placed in each group advance. In the South American Championship, there is still a play-off to be played, with the participation of some of the best third-placed teams from the Libertadores, who face the second-placed teams — the first-placed teams advance directly.
The draws use pots to separate the clashes. In the Libertadores, for example, the teams that advance first are in separate pots from the teams that advance second. The round of 16, quarter and semi-finals are round-trip matches, always with the club with the best campaign playing the second match at home.
Brazilians in continental competitions
Libertadores has seven Brazilians competing for the continental title: Fluminense, São Paulo, Guild, Botafogo, Flamengo, Palm trees It is Atlético-MG.
In South America, there are seven more: cruise, International, Strength, Athletico-PR, Corinthians, Cuiabá It is Red Bull Bragantino.
Everyone has a chance of going to the round of 16.
