Students and teachers from the Miécimo da Silva Sports Center, in Campo Grande, had a tennis lesson this Friday. The activity is a partnership between the Municipal Sports Secretariat of Rio de Janeiro (SMEL) and Liga Tênis 10, a movement that promotes training and workshops in the sport.

  • Flamengo: Sons of Bruno Henrique and Filipe Luís are champions in the rubro-negro under-7
  • Former Fluminense: Defender Nino’s wife drives to the maternity ward in labor

The partnership involves free classes in Rio’s Olympic Villages for students aged 5 to 12, as well as training for teachers. These are selected by the city hall and have access to courses organized by Liga Tênis 10. Furthermore, the entity will invite the best students to participate in tournaments promoted by it.

This was the second of three visits to the Olympic villages, the next being in Mato Alto, with a date to be set. Last week the visit took place in Santa Cruz, at the Vila Olímpica Oscar Schmidt, and attended around 50 children.

– In this second class we had around 60 children. Many already take classes, others played for the first time. You can see that some have skills and a sense of space, even without playing tennis often. It is important to be together with the Department of Sport and Leisure in this step so that more people can play tennis and get motivated in the sport – Bruna Assemany, CEO of the League:

– I think the coolest thing was a phrase I heard when I was putting away the material. A little boy called me and said he wanted to sign up for tennis and take more classes. I think this is the main legacy that we can be building, in addition to developing competitiveness and sport in these Olympic villages – continued Assemany.
