Last Monday, Corinthians officially announced four arrivals for their base: Estevan for the Under-20s; Bruno Xavier, Kevin Moura and Julio Neto for the Under-17s. Shortly after the article was published, midfielders Tomaz Bottaro and Caio Lisboa were announced. Therefore, the black and white base, considering its two main categories, reached 26 signings in 2024.
Of this total, the majority is allocated to the Under-20s, with 13. Another 12 are for the Under-17s. There is also an agreement underway with Isac, a midfielder from Atlético-MG, who has not yet appeared at the BID, but who has been training with the Timãozinho squad for some time, participated in friendlies and was even at the category’s Media Day.
With the arrivals this season, the two main categories, combined, have 116 athletes linked to the club – check out all the signings and squads for both categories below. A fifth of these athletes were hired in 2024. There are also the cases of Igor Ratier and Adryan, who are on loan to Coimbra-MG and Athletico-PR, respectively.
It is worth noting that the list of signings was supposed to be longer, but an impasse with Tacuary, from Paraguay, made the arrival of Paraguayan defender Adrián Brizuela unfeasible. The names of some players continue to be taken to the black and white board, which analyzes possible attacks with the scout of the club.
Most of those hired for the Under-20s arrive with a professional contract, stronger legally. The situation is opposite in the Under-17, with athletes having an amateur contract. The club can, if it deems necessary, dismiss them without so much difficulty.
It is common for youth teams to have more robust squads, especially considering the rotation between categories and even possible promotions to the professional ranks. Still, there is an understanding within the club that the squads are swollen, but it is not necessarily seen as a problem for the reasons mentioned. In this scenario, Under-16s and 18s have been working to cope with the crush of young athletes.
The Under-20s compete in the Brazilian and Paulista Championships this season. Those considered starters have played in the first competition and the reserves in the second, a considerable change in the work of Danilo, who used to go with full force to all commitments. The formula is repeated in the Under-17 with Raphael Laruccia, even though, at the moment, he is only competing in the State Championship, as the CBF has not released the table for the national tournament.
High number of entries for competitions
The high number of athletes registered in each tournament has drawn attention. In the Under-20s, there were 69 listed for the Brazilian and 75 for the Paulista. The high number is due to the relationships between professional players who are of basic age and could eventually go down – Biro, Wesley and Kayke, for example – and others from the Under-17 who are well regarded by the top team – Dieguinho, Gui Negão and Luiz Fernando are performing with some frequency. Neither CBF nor FPF limit the number of athletes that can be included on the list in any of the categories.
In this sense, the U-17 is a little different, as it is limited only to players in the category and U-16. In Paulista, 51 young people were registered and in the Copa do Brasil, 52.
