Lightweight champion (up to 70.3kg.) in the largest MMA organization since 2022, Islam Makhachev assessed the chances of facing Max Holloway after the Hawaiian show at UFC 300. In an interview with ‘New York Post‘, the Russian star imposed a condition to fight a superfight against the current holder of the ‘BMF’ title. Despite the immediate refusal, the fighter does not rule out confrontation in the future.

“If he beats a few more guys in my division (lightweight), we can fight. I don’t give it the opportunity now because I have some challengers that I need to beat. Now, I’m going to face Dustin (Poirier). Then Arman (Tsarukyan). I have a job to do and he also has it in his division (featherweight). If he wins his next fight, maybe (Ilia) Topuria,” declared Makhachev.

Islam’s possible opponent in the future, Holloway was featured in the UFC 300. On that occasion, the athlete moved up a category to face Justin Gaethje by the title ‘BMF’.

Faced with his dangerous rival, Max performed brilliantly. The confrontation ended in a frightening way, with a brutal knockout from the Hawaiian in the last second of the fight.

Holloway’s target, Makhachev has a date and opponent for his next fight. At UFC 302, the Russian faces Dustin Poirier and is looking for his third lightweight title defense.
