Alex Pereira is on the rise UFC and not just with fans of MMA. In April, in Las Vegas (USA), the Brazilian defended the light heavyweight belt (93 kg) for the first time by knocking out Jamahal Hill in the opening round and then expressed his desire to test himself at heavyweight.

Impressed by ‘Poatan’, Kamaru Usman expressed his opinion on his desire to venture into the most dangerous category in the sport. Recently, Dana White expressed uncertainty about the athlete moving up a division and indicated that he could have problems against bigger and more powerful fighters.

On the other hand, Usman defends the idea that ‘Poatan’ has what it takes to repeat the success he achieved in middleweight (84 kg) and light heavyweight as well as heavyweight. So much so that the former welterweight champion (77 kg) classifies the Brazilian as a potential threat in the category because he is a decorated striker.

“Everyone at middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight is in trouble when they fight a guy like Alex. If you don’t take the path of least resistance and let him fight the way he has the greatest advantage, I think everyone is in trouble. I definitely give him a good chance against a guy like Aspinall,” said the former UFC champion on his podcast ‘Pound 4 Pound‘.

Usman’s MMA Record

Kamaru Usman, 36 years old, dominated the UFC welterweight division from 2019 to 2022 and defended the category belt on five occasions.

No wonder, the athlete is classified by many as the second best fighter in the history of the division, behind only Georges St-Pierre.

In MMA since 2012, the Nigerian has built a record consisting of 20 wins and four losses. His main triumphs were over Colby Covington (twice), Demian Maia, Gilbert ‘Durinho’, Jorge Masvidal (twice), Leon Edwards, Rafael dos Anjos, Sean Strickland and Tyron Woodley.
