SC Military Police teams rescue 670 people and 80 pets in Rio Grande do Sul

Since May 1st, the Santa Catarina Military Police (PMSC) has been in Rio Grande do Sul helping to rescue families left homeless due to the heavy rains and flooding that hit the state of Rio Grande do Sul. To date, 370 people and 30 pets have been rescued by the Aviation Battalion and another 300 people and 50 animals by the Environmental Military Police Command garrison. In total, PMSC rescued 670 people and 80 animals.

On May 1st, the first team from the Aviation Battalion (BAPM) was sent. Afterwards, a garrison from the Environmental Military Police Command (CPMA) was also sent to the region of Porto Alegre (RS), which moved in the late afternoon of Friday, 3rd, with a vehicle and a boat to support the Civil Defense actions and carry out rescue actions for people and animals.

The PMSC police officers were sent following the instructions of the State Governor, Jorginho Mello and the general commander of the PMSC, Colonel Aurélio José Pelozato da Rosa, and work together with the other Security Forces, from the State Secretariat for Civil Defense, of the Federal Highway Police and the Armed Forces. The teams will remain on Rio Grande do Sul soil until necessary.
