In March, in New Jersey (USA), Chris Weidman ended the bad phase in UFC. After two consecutive defeats, the American made peace with victory by overcoming Bruno ‘Armored’ in a controversial way. Now, excited by his triumph, the veteran aims to compete in important fights and already has his ideal opponent in mind.

By participating in the podcast’Believe You Me‘, Weidman opened the doors to hold a fight between former UFC middleweight champions (84 kg) against Sean Strickland.

It is true that the athlete will face Paulo ‘Borrachinha’, in June, in a fight that should put the winner close to competing for the category belt. In any case, the veteran is so interested in facing the ‘bad boy’ that he even ignores the division’s ranking.

It is worth noting that ‘Tarzan’ is number one in his weight, while Chris is outside the top-15.

“I want a big name. I fought Bruno, who is not a big name. I think it’s time to take a step forward and have a fun fight that people want to see and people know about both.”

“Not that I can choose my opponents, but, if it were up to me, I would like to face a big name, have a fight in which a victory would mean a little more. I have a lot of respect for Strickland. I would love that fight.”

“He would make me stop being a nice guy. We could trash talk, have fun. I like his style, that he speeds up the pace. I like to speed up the pace. He likes to tire guys out, so he would like to test me against a guy like that,” declared the veteran.

Weidman’s MMA Record

Chris Weidman, 39 years old, is one of the best middleweight fighters in MMA history. During his reign in the UFC category, the American defended the belt on three occasions.

In the sport since 2009, the athlete has built a record consisting of 16 wins and seven losses. His main triumphs were over Anderson Silva (twice), Demian Maia, Kelvin Gastelum, Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort.
