Lance Stroll was once again the protagonist of a controversial incident, this time causing a crash with Daniel Ricciardo at the Chinese Formula 1 GP. To make matters worse, the Canadian showed no regret and denied being at fault in post-race interviews. Former F1 driver Jan Lammers, who competed in 41 races in the category, harshly criticized Stroll’s stance.

On lap 27 of the Chinese race, Stroll did not brake in time and collided with the back of Ricciardo’s car, who had to abandon the race and was enraged. In an interview, the Australian tried to contain his anger, while in the environment reserved for the podium drivers, Max Verstappen, Lando Norris and Sergio Perez watched the scene in disbelief. The Dutchman’s initial reaction was laughter.

Analyzing Ricciardo’s situation, Lammers commented on the NOS Formula 1 podcast: “It’s surprising that something like this happens, because it can catch you off guard. Alonso braked hard, and it almost looked like Ricciardo hit Piastri alone. I don’t know if he could have avoided it if Stroll hadn’t collided heavily from behind, in any case, Ricciardo was already very close to Piastri.”

As for Stroll, the Dutchman spared no criticism: “It was simply a stupid attitude, he wasn’t paying attention. But what made it even worse was his reaction. So it is understandable that Ricciardo was furious,” concluded Lammers.
