During this period, Palmeiras won two titles (2020 and 2021), already under the command of Portuguese coach Abel Ferreira, and reached three more semifinals (2018, 2022 and 2023). He was also the owner of the best campaign in the first phase five times.
Five Brazilians among the ten
In addition to Palmeiras, four more Brazilian teams appear in the top 10 of the best-performing clubs of the decade in the Libertadores.
Also two-time champion Flamengo occupies third place, with 151 points. Grêmio, who won a title, is in fifth. Atlético-MG, in sixth, and Internacional, in ninth, complete the group of representatives from the land of Romário, Ronaldo and Neymar.
But, despite Brazil’s dominance at the top of the ranking, the one closest to Palmeiras’ results is an Argentine: River Plate, which has scored 177 points (only eight less than the Alviverde team) since 2014.
Another year of hegemony?
Winner of the last five editions of the Libertadores and owner of a hegemony never before seen in the history of the competition, Brazilian football is hot on Argentina’s heels for the greatest South American champion of all time. The land of Boca and River has 25 titles, two more than the five-time world champions.
