In the quarterfinals of the 2024 Men’s Volleyball Super League, the teams with the worst record in the regular season won the first match of the series. On Monday night (1st), Joinville confirmed the coincidence in this edition of the playoffs. Facing Farma Conde away from home, the team from Santa Catarina took a giant step towards the semi-final, winning by 3 sets to 1 (25/20, 25/20 and 17/25 and 25/22).

The result leaves Joinville just needing a home win in the next match to advance in the Superliga. The second match is scheduled for next Friday (5), at 9pm, at Centreventos Cau Hansen. If Farma Conde wins, the series returns for one last match in São José de Campos.

In the qualifying phase of the Men’s Superliga, Farma Conde finished with the second best campaign. The team from Jose had 50 points with 18 wins in 22 games. On the other hand, Joinville ended up in seventh place, adding 34 points and 12 wins.

Game summary

Joinville imposed its pace from the beginning of the game. Taking advantage of Farma Conde’s lack of support, the Santa Catarina team took a 1-0 lead with some ease. The tone of the match remained the same in the second half and the defensive volume of the visitors earned them another set. Betting everything, the hosts staged a reaction with victory in the third half and a good start to the fourth. However, the team from Santa Catarina staged a comeback and closed the match.

“Zebras on Wednesdays”

All four Superliga quarter-final clashes ended with the visiting team winning. In addition to Joinville, Vôlei Renata, Araguari and Minas also beat teams with better campaigns in the first match of the series. Now, these clubs have the possibility of deciding the place at home.
