Gov Agency – The Brazilian formal market generated a total of 244,315 formal jobs in March, accumulating a total of 719,033 formal vacancies created in the first quarter of the year. The result was positive in the month in four of the five major groups of economic activities and in 25 of the 27 states of the federation. As a result, the total stock recovered for the General Register of Employed and Unemployed Persons (Caged) was 46,236,308 formal jobs.

The data was released this Tuesday (30), by the Ministry of Labor.

In March last year, the economy generated 194,372 jobs and in the last 12 months, the balance was 1,647,505 jobs, 182,164 more jobs than the balance for the year 2023.

The sector that generated the most jobs in the month was services, with 148,722 jobs, followed by commerce (37,493), industry (35,886) and construction (28,666). Only the agricultural sector was negative, with a loss of 6,457 jobs.

The federation units with the highest generation were São Paulo, which generated 76,941 jobs, a growth of 0.6%, with emphasis on the services sector, which created 46,451 jobs; Minas Gerais, with the creation of 40,796 jobs (+0.9%); and Rio de Janeiro, which created 22,466 jobs (+0.7%) in the month.

1st quarter results

In the first quarter (accumulated from January to March 2024), the five major groups of economic activities recorded positive balances, with the greatest growth seen in the Services sector, with a balance of 419,286 formal jobs, a total of 58.3% of the balance . The highlight was the activities of public administration, defense, social security, education, human health and social services, with the creation of 179,470 vacancies and the activities of information, communication and financial, real estate, professional and administrative activities, which created 143,050 new posts.

Industry presented a balance of 155,461 jobs created, with emphasis on the manufacture of motor vehicles (13,605) and the manufacture of food products (13,540). The Construction sector generated 109,911 vacancies in the 1st quarter, with greater increases in the construction of buildings (45,630) and infrastructure works (27,286). Agriculture also showed a positive balance in the quarter, generating 19,278 jobs, with highlights being the cultivation of apples (6,122) and soybeans (5,181). The accumulated result for the year was not better, due to the poor result of orange, which lost 13,155 jobs in the period. Commerce showed a good recovery in March, achieving a positive result for the first time in the year, with an accumulation of 15,091 jobs.

Among the Federative Units, the largest accumulated balance occurred in São Paulo (213,503), a growth of 1.5%; Minas Gerais, with the creation of 88,359 jobs, growth of 1.9%; and in Paraná, with the creation of 69,618 jobs in the year, growth of 2.3% in the quarter.

Population groups

In March, the balance was positive for women (124,483) and men (119,832). With regard to the Disabled Population, the balance was positive, with the creation of 558 jobs. In terms of color, the balance was positive for browns (220,547), whites (138,032) and blacks (44,491), being negative for yellows (-2,793) and indigenous people (-1,946).
