Back to Superliga A! Mackenzie beats Curitiba and guarantees herself in the elite of women’s volleyball < In Attack

After 12 years, Mackenzie is back in Superliga A! The Belo Horizonte club guaranteed a place in the Brazilian volleyball elite this Thursday (20/3), by defeating Curitiba by 3 sets to 0, at Mackenzie Esporte Clube, in the capital of Minas Gerais, in the semifinals of Superliga B.

This Monday (25/3), Mackenzie defeated Curitiba by 3 sets to 2, at the Círculo Militar do Paraná, in the first match of the semifinal. Therefore, the victory on Thursday night, in front of their own fans, was enough to close the series 2-0 and reach promotion.

The traditional Minas Gerais club had no difficulties in the first two sets. No wonder he triumphed with splits of 25/18 and 25/17. In the third half, Curitiba tried to make up for the loss to get back into contention. And it took work, even opening up an advantage on the scoreboard. However, it did not hold and saw the miners take the lead again.

The team’s return to the elite contributed to an important achievement. For the first time in history, Minas Gerais will have three representatives in the Women’s Volleyball Super League. In addition to Mackenzie, Praia Clube, from Uberlândia, and Minas, also from Belo Horizonte, will compete in the 2024/25 edition.

At the end of the match, Sassá, 41, received affection from her teammates. Olympic champion in Beijing’2008, the Minas Gerais native from Barbacena leads the group. “I’m left speechless. It’s a very big emotion. Last year I stopped playing and now I’m living this moment. I just have to thank the club and sponsors. We still have one more game and we will want to close it with a flourish”, she commented.

Superliga B Final

In the Superliga B final, Mackenzie faces Brusque. The team from Santa Catarina defeated Recife in two matches (3 sets to 0 and 3 sets to 1) and also guaranteed space in the elite.

The Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) has not yet announced the date and time of the decision.

Campaigns in Superliga B

Mackenzie ended its participation in the Superliga B qualifying phase in first place, with 30 points – 10 wins and one defeat. Brusque finished third, with 25 goals – eight triumphs and three stumbles.
