From June 1st, telemarketing calls of up to six seconds will be considered abusive. Currently, the time is three seconds. Companies making these mass calls will be blocked. According to the National Telecommunications Agency, this measure aims to reduce the inconvenience and inconvenience caused to consumers of telephone services in the country.

The concept of short calls was also expanded to include, in addition to uncompleted calls, normally disconnected by the user before even answering, calls directed to voicemail.

According to the Anatel order published this Friday (26th), companies that make more than 100 thousand short calls per day, in this case up to 6 seconds, will be blocked for 15 days. Those who make 85% of daily calls using this profile will also face sanctions.

The lawyer specializing in consumer law and service regulation, Vitor Boaventura, says that these measures could result in fewer annoying calls to consumers.

“Anatel, when increasing, has to consider short-term calls. It increases its monitoring capacity and also increases the possibility of punishing these companies, but consumers can protect themselves in other ways. So, identify this number before Even after answering the call, you can already identify whether it is the sender from the recipient. Another thing that can be done is to use the portal offered by Natel, called Which company called me? Through this portal, it is possible for the consumer to identify. the CNPJ and the company name of that company that is entitled, of that telephone number that is making the call”, he said.

According to Anatel, since June 2022, when the first precautionary measure was issued, 909 users have been blocked and 143 terms of formal commitment to good practices have been signed by teleservices companies. 24 administrative proceedings were also initiated, with a total value of R$28 million in fines imposed.

The agency’s estimate is that around 110 billion calls were avoided during this period, equivalent to 541 calls per inhabitant.
