Alison dos Santos, known as Piu, will kick off the Olympic season this Saturday (30), when she takes part in the Pepsi Florida Relays, in Gainesville, Florida. In the North American city, the Brazilian will make his debut in 2024 competing in the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay. Both events are in his sights for the Paris 2024 Games.

“The focus is on the 400m hurdles and, if the team qualifies for the Olympic Games in the 4x400m relay and reaches the final in Paris, he will also be available,” said his coach Felipe de Siqueira. “Alison is still in the preparation phase, we are doing a long but necessary period. We will start with meetings here in the USA to evaluate the training and seek competition rhythm”, he added.

In the 400m dash, Brazil already has three athletes with an Olympic rating. Piu was the first to reach the mark at last year’s World Athletics Championships, when he clocked 44.73. In the South American Championship, Lucas Carvalho ran 44s79 and also achieved the feat. In this year, Matheus Lima became third by completing the distance in 44s52 in a São Paulo Federation tournament.

Calendar until Paris-2024

“The big goal of the year, of course, is the Olympic Games. He will do some tests before Paris in preparation, something that was not possible last season due to injury. That’s what we usually do”, highlighted Felipe, referring to the surgery that the athlete had to undergo on his right knee in February 2023.
