United States Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced on Friday (April 26, 2024) that the country will supply Patriot missiles for Ukraine’s air defense system, as an additional part of the US$6 billion aid package. .
The supplied armaments will be used to replenish previously supplied Patriot air defense systems. The package also includes ammunition from the National Advanced Anti-Aircraft Missile Systems (Nasams).

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, had spoken about the need for the Patriots on Friday morning (Apr 26, 2024) during a meeting of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group, a group of 50 countries that meet virtually, led by the Pentagon. At the time, Zelensky stated that at least 7 Patriot systems were needed to protect Ukrainian cities.
