San Luis Potosi (Mexico) – One day after having won his debut in the singles draw of the WTA 125 in San Luis Potosi, on clay courts in Mexico, Laura Pigossi also advanced in the doubles. Pigossi and Poland’s Katarzyna Piter beat Germany’s Julia Lohoff and Switzerland’s Conny Perrin, seeded 2 in the tournament, by 3/6, 6/2 and 13-11.

Pigossi and Piter even saved a match point in the match tiebreak, when they were losing 10-9. The first set had just one break, won by Perrin and Lohoff, who did not face break-points. In the second half, the Brazilian and the Polish team won 3/0 and broke again in the last game of the set. During the decisive set, they only confirmed their victory on the third chance they had.

Victory in the doubles debut earns 27 points in the sport’s ranking and a place in the quarterfinals. They could face Mexicans Ana Sofia Sánchez and Victoria Rodriguez or North American Quinn Gleason and Serbian Natalija Stevanovic.

Olympic medalist in Tokyo alongside Luísa Stefani three years ago, Pigossi is now ranked 269th in the doubles ranking. In singles, the 29-year-old from São Paulo occupies 116th place in the WTA. She returns to action this Wednesday to face the Chinese Xiaodi You, ranked 224th, who was beating the French Alizé Cornet by 6/4 and 4/2, when her rival abandoned. Pigossi won his only previous duel against You, two years ago in Bogotá.
