The match between Botafogo and LDU this Wednesday, at Nilton Santos, in the Libertadores group stage, was marked by a moment of indefinite refereeing: the VAR took 10 minutes to cancel the Ecuadorians’ goal, scored by Estrada.
At 17 min of the 1st half – goal disallowed by Estrada from LDU against Botafogo
In the 17th minute of the first half, the LDU player took advantage of the rebound inside the area and scored with his back heel, in a very confusing move. The Argentine referee, Dário Herrera minutes later, was called to the VAR to review the move.
In the end, the referee pointed out the LDU attack was offside. In the middle of checking the move, the referee’s communication stopped working and he had to call the assistant to help him talk to the booth. VAR in the match was commanded by fellow Argentine Hernan Mastrangelo.
The ball only rolled again after 27 minutes.
This is the third biggest stoppage caused by VAR in games involving clubs from Series A of the Brasileirão, according to a survey by Espião Estatístico. See the ranking:
