They are all mentioned in the letter sent to the Ministry of Justice by the chief minister of the Communication Secretariat, Paulo Pimenta. The document lists accounts on social networks and posts on the internet that have been disseminating false information about the work to rescue people and the recovery from the damage in the state.

According to Pimenta, the narratives invented on the internet, in addition to having no parallel with reality, also directly affect people’s lives and rescue work.

“The spread of falsehoods can reduce the population’s confidence in the State’s response capabilities, harming evacuation and rescue efforts at critical moments,” says the letter.

According to the Ministry of Justice, the investigation will investigate illicit acts or possible crimes related to the dissemination of misinformation and individualization of conduct.

In partnership with the Attorney General’s Office (AGU), competent bodies will be called to take legal action to hold those responsible accountable.
