The entire network of agencies Mail from São Paulo and Paraná, in addition to part of the units in Rio Grande do Sul, from this Monday (6) onwards, donations are being received for victims of the rains that hit the state of Rio Grande do Sul. Basic food items, personal hygiene products, dry hygiene materials and clothing items are accepted. These are the items most needed at the moment, according to information from Civil Defense, a partner institution of Correios in this action.

The Post Office will also donate forgotten goods, such as clothing items and household items, to those affected by the rains. Donations are objects of waste, that is, they have undergone all delivery attempts, have not been sought by recipients or senders and have already exceeded the 90-day deadline for complaints provided for in the Consumer Protection Code.

Furthermore, in the municipality of Santa Maria, the Post Office provided trucks and employees to assist Civil Defense in any way necessary.

The integrated action between the state superintendencies of Correios is being carried out through a joint initiative of the Executive Board of the state-owned company and the Ministry of Communications, the department to which the company is linked and which operates in the crisis group created to face the situation.

— As a public company and agent of the federal government, it is our obligation to contribute to Rio Grande do Sul at this difficult time. Following President Lula’s directives, we are placing our logistical structure at the service of the population, acting in all the ways that the National Civil Defense and the state request — says the president of Correios, Fabiano Silva dos Santos.

Donations of seized goods

The Post Office and the Federal Revenue Service have signed a partnership to ensure that more than 50 tons of seized clothing and footwear are sent to victims of the rains in Rio Grande do Sul. The Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, announced on the social network X (formerly Twitter ):

“In the coming days, dozens of tons of clothes, blankets and other goods seized by the Federal Revenue Service will arrive in Rio Grande do Sul and will be distributed with the support of trucks and helicopters. My condolences to the families of the victims”, says the publication.
