The president took a delegation from the three powers to the state, which recorded 66 deaths after a week of rain that overflowed rivers and flooded cities. On a social network, Lula stated that he traveled to the state to ‘strengthen the work to support the people of Rio Grande do Sul’.
Lula disembarked in Canoas, in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre, at around 10:30 am, accompanied by the first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, 13 ministers, Lira, Pacheco, Fachin and the president of the Federal Audit Court (TCU), Bruno Dantas.
The delegation was received by governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB) and headed to Porto Alegre. In the 3rd Cavalry Regiment of the Army, the president participates in a meeting with federal, state and municipal authorities.
At the moment, the rescue effort is concentrated in Porto Alegre and the metropolitan region, in the cities of Eldorado do Sul, Canoas and Guaíba.
In Porto Alegre, Guaíba overflowed its banks and advanced onto streets and avenues. The city’s bus station was flooded and travel was suspended. Salgado Filho Airport was closed “due to the high volume of rain”.
