More than 23 years after the premiere of The Auto da CompadecidaSelton Mello and Matheus Nachtergaele return to the worn-out costumes of Chicó and João Grilo for “new presepadas”, as described in the first teaser of The Compadecida Auto 2, one of the most anticipated sequences in national cinema. Based on the play of the same name by Ariano Suassuna, the narrative was edited as a miniseries and broadcast on Rede Globo before being released as a film and becoming the most successful Brazilian premiere of 2000. Since then, the film has become a phenomenon and a staple of reruns. from the channel, having even been remastered and re-screened in the country’s cinemas in 2019. The new chapter finally arrives on December 25, 2024 and has just released its first scenes.

Set two decades after the events of the original work, the film chronicles the reunion of the dynamic duo after years of separation. Captivated by the meeting, the two go on adventures that involve both familiar faces like Rosinha (Virgina Cavendish) and new characters played by Eduardo Sterblitch, Juliano Cazarré It is Fabiula Nascimento. Furthermore, the teaser ends with the first image of Taís Araújo in the role of Our Lady, previously assumed by Fernanda Montenegro — doubt that hovered over the production, as Fernanda was expected for the role and ended up not playing it due to a “scheduling conflict”.

In the first film, João Grilo and Chicó do whatever it takes to survive poverty, exploited by their boss in a small northeastern town. To achieve this, however, certain lies and trickery become necessary and attract the attention of a bloodthirsty bandit who puts the duo between life and death, a circumstance that provides the story’s striking sense of humor and fantasy. This time, filmmaker Guel Arraes shares the directing role with Flávia Lacerda — director of several Globo series and soap operas — and writing the script with Jorge Furtado and Adriana and João Falcão. Produced by Conspiração Filmes.
