Known for his pro-censorship activism on social media, Lulista YouTuber Felipe Neto defended his freedom of opinion after being denounced by the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), for insulting him.

Lira called the Legislative Police against the left-wing influencer, this Thursday (25), after Neto called the President of the House “excremental” during a hearing on the regulation of social networks in the Chamber.

At the time, Felipe Neto demanded that Congress approve the “fake news” PL – also known as the Censorship PL. The YouTuber said that the project is not related to “censorship” and accused the “extreme right” of creating a “narrative” to block the vote on the proposal.

After opening the case against Felipe Neto, the Legislative Police sent the accusation of insult to the Federal Court.

“I just found out that the president of the Chamber of Deputies called the police against me. I confess that I found it curious, since Arthur Lira himself said today: ‘For a parliamentarian to be called to testify in the PF because he said that a minister is this or that in the CPI is exaggerating a bit’. I have no opinion about the person Arthur Lira, I don’t know him. As a parliamentarian, my opinion is clear: your actions and inactions are largely harmful and extremely reprehensible. My intention, when quoting ‘excrementíssimo’, was clearly to make fun of the word ‘excellent’, a satirical, joking opinion, evidently with no intention of offending honor. I have suffered attempts to silence people using the police before, including by the Bolsonaro family. I will continue facing this entire group as long as I have the strength left. And I never said I would face them with flowers, I never did and I never will”, https://twitter.com/felipeneto/status/1783590353959813620.

In another publication, Neto shared an excerpt from an opinion by the Minister of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), Alexandre de Moraes, in a judgment that says: “Freedom of expression exists for the expression of contrary, joking, satirical and even erroneous, but not for criminal opinions, hate speech or attacks against the Democratic Rule of Law and democracy”.

Despite defending his own freedom of expression, Felipe Neto recently came out in defense of the censorship of social media profiles imposed by ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and said that the newspapers that are reporting abuses “want clicks”.

Neto’s attack on the newspapers was made in the wake of the revelations of the scandal known as “Twitter Files Brazil”, in which the owner of aligned to the left. Neto is mentioned in the documents, showing privileged access in negotiations with Twitter.

Last month, when participating as a speaker at the Seminar promoted by the Ministry of Health to design and create the Covid-19 Pandemic Memorial, the YouTuber defended the control of social networks as a way to defeat what he called the “extreme right”.

Criticized for the abrupt change of position regarding the left and President Lula (PT), Felipe Neto is part of a working group set up by the Ministry of Human Rights to combat “hate speech and extremism”.

In May last year, Neto participated in an event promoted by UNESCO in defense of press freedom at the request of Lula (PT). Months later, in November 2023, the YouTuber encouraged the persecution of a journalist because of the report that revealed visits by the “drug lady” to the Lula government’s Ministry of Justice.

Felipe Neto called the editor a “fake news lady” and suggested that the journalist could be “financed”. After the negative repercussion of the attack on the journalist, the YouTuber deleted the tweet and made a new publication with an apology.
