A 52% adjustment was agreed between Planalto and civil servants; Health and childcare benefits were also included

Federal public employees will have a 51.9% increase in their food vouchers starting next month. With the measure, the benefits increase to the following values:

  • food vouchers – goes from R$658 to R$1,000, the increase is R$342;
  • health voucher – goes from R$144.38 to R$215, the increase is R$70.62;
  • daycare voucher – goes from R$321 to R$484.90, the increase is R$163.9.

An estimate of the Power360 shows that the impact must be at least R$235 million per month. Per year, the value should reach around R$2.8 billion. When contacted, the Ministry of Management said, in a note, that the real impact depends on the use of benefits by employees. There is R$1 billion reserved for the adjustment.

This year’s budget law had reserved around R$1 billion for readjustment, which was agreed at the Negotiation Table that would be used to readjust benefits. The real impact depends on the use of benefit servers such as health benefits and daycare benefits.“, said MGI.

The values were closed on Thursday (25.Apr.2024) in agreement between the entities representing public employees and the federal government, through SRT/MGI (Secretariat of Labor Relations of the Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services ). Planalto committed to implementing by July all specific career discussions that have not yet been opened within the scope of the National Permanent Negotiation Table.

According to the ministry, the increase in food assistance results in an income gain of more than 4.5% for more than 200,000 active federal public servants who earn up to R$9,000 per month. Workers with the lowest salaries and who simultaneously receive the 3 benefits (food, health and daycare) will have an increase of up to 23% in their total remuneration.

MGI Labor Relations Secretary, José Lopez Feijóo, said that, in 2023, the government had already granted a linear salary increase to all federal public employees.

This agreement, together with the 9% adjustment that was already granted last year, begins a process of recovering salaries that were frozen for so long”, stated the secretary.

For Condsef (Confederation of Workers in the Federal Public Service), the readjustment of benefits was positive for public employees, but the entity said it will continue to demand adjustments of 7% to 10% in salaries for this year.

In the term of commitment, there is nothing guaranteed about the adjustment for 2024, even though the entities have insisted on this. But let’s not throw in the towel, because it’s a historic demand for the category. We understand that the salary freeze phase was during the previous government, so the time to recover the purchasing power of civil servants is now”, declared Sérgio Ronaldo da Silva, secretary general of Condsef, in an interview with Brazil Agency.

The entity represents 80% of Federal Executive employees, including active employees, retirees and pensioners.
