Re-education from the São Paulo prison system since last Friday (22), former football player Robinho has shown himself to be very calm during conversations with prison staff and, smiling, says he believes in his release very soon, according to agents interviewed by the Sheet.

According to reports from employees at the Tremembé Penitentiary, in São Paulo, Robinho says he is convinced that he will obtain a favorable decision in the coming days. An agent told the report that the former player is sure he will leave this week and even joked that he will eat Easter eggs at home.

The former player spoke to agents inside an 8 m² cell where he must remain in isolation for ten days, complying with security measures in SP prisons. In the meantime, he cannot receive visits from relatives, only from his defenders.

Prison officials also state that Robinho, as he is so hopeful about leaving prison, may suffer a blow when, at the end of this period of observation, he is forced to join the prison population and experience the reality of living in the same cell as the minimum four other people.

The former player, revealed by Santos and who defended the Brazilian team in the 2010 World Cup, is in prison by order of the STJ (Superior Court of Justice). By 9 votes to 2, the ministers validated Italy’s sentence that sentenced the athlete to nine terms in prison for the crime of gang rape. He has always denied having committed any crime.

The case occurred in 2013, and the victim was a young Albanian, in a nightclub in Milan. The first instance conviction took place in 2017.

Despite the former athlete expressing hope for a quick reversal of the current situation, the first signs coming from the STF were positive for him. Minister Luiz Fux denied habeas corpus for the former player because, according to him, it had been demonstrated that “the practice of illegal coercion restricted the patient’s freedom”.

“Considering the grounds set out throughout this vote, there is no evidence of a violation, by the Superior Court of Justice, of constitutional, legal norms or international treaties, characterizing illegal coercion or violence against the patient’s freedom of movement”, he said.

A Sheet He tried to contact Robinho’s lawyer, José Eduardo Alckmin, for two days to comment on the agents’ reports, but the defender did not answer the phones or messages.
