X-Men ’97 remains one of Marvel Studios’ best productions in recent years, delivering a sequel that surpasses the original cartoon from the 90s by several points, and also prepares the ground for new adventures in the future. After the shocking events of the fifth episode, which showed the genocide of mutants in Genosha, with millions of people dying, including important characters, the X-Men try to discover those responsible behind the attack. After tracking down the whereabouts of Bolivar Trask, the creator of the Sentinels, he transforms into Sentinel Prime, a new version of the mutant hunters.

In the final moments, it is revealed that the person behind everything is Bastion, who begins experimenting on Magneto, who everyone believed had been eliminated in the attack on Genosha. But who is this being that emerged from the most absolute nothing and managed to deceive everyone and still dominate the Master of Magnetism?

A machine made to kill mutants

Introduced in 1996 in the comics, Bastion is the fusion between Master Mold and a robot from the future that is an advanced version of the Sentinels, called Nimrod. He ends up having the appearance of a human without any knowledge of his origin, assuming the identity of Sebastion Gilberti.

His first appearance is related to the Operation Zero Tolerance arc, something that was mentioned as OTZ in the seventh episode of X-Men ’97. The villain is well known for his crusade against mutants, participating in different plans to end the mutants. homo superior from the earth.

Among his powers as an android, Bastion is immune to telepaths, can control Sentinels, manipulate energy, teleportation, time travel, super strength and endurance, and flight.

In the final moments of the seventh episode of X-Men ’97it is revealed that Bastion is behind the attack on Genosha, proves to be much more powerful than Mister Sinister and is capable of transforming normal people into Prime Sentinels, an advanced form of powerful beings that hunt mutants.

Showing his reach across time and space, he is being pursued by Cable, a time traveler who has crossed paths with the X-Men before and who confirms to be Nathan Summers, Cyclops’ son with Madelyne Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey. which is presented in the third episode of the season.

The last scene of the episode shows Bastion beginning to explain to Magneto, who is injured and using a device that eliminates his powers, how he intends to destroy all mutants. It is possible to believe that one of the villain’s plans is to transform the God of Magnetism, who changed his position in the treatment of humans, assuming leadership of the X-Men in the absence of his old friend, Charles Xavier, into a kind of Sentinel Prime.

With Xavier himself on his way to Earth after leaving at the end of the original series, a showdown between the old friends seems like just a matter of time.
