Milestone of a generation, De Repente 30 turns 20 this Tuesday. Released on April 23, 2004 in the United States, the film directed by Gary Winick, from Brides at War and Letters to Juliet, remains one of the most interesting romantic comedies in the film industry.
Combining comedy, romance and hints of fantasy from the time travel subgenre – usually linked to science fiction thrillers -, the story follows Jenna Rink (Christa B. Allen), a girl who is unhappy with her own age, as her peers The most popular people at school don’t pay attention to her, her parents are always on her case and the boy she’s in love with doesn’t even know she exists. The only friend Jenna has is Matt Flamhaff (Sean Marquette), her neighbor.

To try to reverse the situation, Jenna decides to have a big party for her 13th birthday, inviting all the teenagers she knows. However, what should have been her consecration turns into a huge disaster, after being locked in a closet due to a prank and being completely forgotten by the others present at the party. Sad, she makes a request: leave the 1980s and suddenly become an adult, to have the life she always dreamed of.
The wish miraculously comes true and, the next day, Jenna (Jennifer Garner) awakens in 2004 and is 30 years old. At first Jenna is scared by the new things in her life, but little by little she becomes more and more delighted at having become everything she always dreamed of being. However, when she tries to reconnect with Matt (Mark Ruffalo), Jenna discovers that she lost contact with him several years ago and that he is now engaged to be married.
