For the director of the Dark Knight trilogy, there is a reason why the hero’s mythology is so attractive

Over the years, the Batman His story was explored in various media. There are several comics, films and even video game adaptations that delve in some way into the DC Comics character. Christopher Nolan is a name strongly associated with Batman for having added the Dark Knight trilogy to this long list of productions about the character – and the director thinks there is a clear reason why the hero’s mythology is so attractive.

Speaking to BFI (via ComicBook), Nolan has indicated that he does not believe the motive is difficult to understand. For him, it’s simply the case that the idea of someone working outside the system to fix it is “infinitely complex and interesting”. He explains:

“It’s kind of a pact with the devil. I mean, it’s the idea that the ends justify the means, in a way,” Nolan said. “I think one of the reasons the Batman mythology is always interesting and always reinvented by new generations of comic book writers and artists and filmmakers is because of this fundamental paradox, or this basic idea, of a good vigilante, someone who feels like he has have to resort to criminal methods or be outside the system in order to fix the system. It is infinitely complex and interesting because of the ethical issue.”
