Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle stars Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black.

Released in theaters in December 2017, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is the sequel to the 1996 film Jumanji, starring Robin Williams. But the film led by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black reverses the principle of its predecessor: instead of the jungle that invades the real world, it is the heroes who are thrust into the game. This idea had already been explored in the animated series broadcast between 1996 and 1999.

With more than $960 million grossed at the international box office, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was such a success that a sequel was soon announced. Two years later, our heroes are back with Jumanji: The Next Level.

But this time, the game has changed! When they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover a completely unexpected world. From arid deserts to snowy mountains, players will have to brave unknown and unexplored spaces to make their way out of the world’s most dangerous game. Jake Kasdan and Jeff Pinkner’s film grossed more than $800 million worldwide.

In April 2020, the directors told Collider that they were thinking about a sequel: “We started talking about it not long ago. We had just started discussions when the global pandemic hit. We love working together and we love making these films (…) There will be a third film, but at the moment we are trying to figure out what it will be.”

Therefore, Jumanji was planned as a trilogy. However, four years after the release of the film Next Level, nothing has moved forward. The Covid-19 pandemic has put many projects on hold, and Jumanji 4 (3rd film in the current saga and 4th in the franchise) was no exception.

But, in March 2021, producer Hiram Garcia, a friend and faithful collaborator of The Rock, announced that the actors would be back for Jumanji 4. “We started talking about the fourth part. I can’t tell you anything yet, but it’s one of our biggest projects, one of our favorites too. We are planning big things. Everything is in progress,” he said.

“As soon as Jake Kasdan and Dwayne Johnson break up Red One, Jumanji will be ongoing,” he added at the time. The holiday action film Red One (for which Dwayne Johnson reportedly received $50 million) was announced on Prime Video for November 15, 2024. Therefore, Jumanji 4 should be the next film directed by Kasdan.

Dwayne Johnson, a busy actor

But Dwayne Johnson already has a very busy schedule: in addition to participating in the voice cast of Moana 2, which hits theaters at the end of 2024, the actor will play the demigod Maui in the live-action version of Moana.

He will next film not one, but two spin-offs of the franchise Fast and furious: Hobbs & Shaw 2, with Jason Statham, and Hobbs & Reyes, with Jason Momoa. Next, the actor is expected to reunite with Gal Gadot and Ryan Reynolds for the sequel to Netflix’s action film Red Alert.

Although The Rock has already announced that his next film would be a live-action version of Moana, it is not yet known whether Jumanji 4 is part of his plans.

Brendan Fraser in the cast?

While the main actors Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan and Jack Black and the young Madison Iseman, Morgan Turner, Ser’Darius Blain and Alex Wolff are expected to return, other casting details were released by the website Giant Freakin Robot, but must be taken into account. with caution.

According to the American website, Dwayne Johnson asked Brendan Fraser to participate in the film and play Spencer’s (Alex Wolff) father.

Warning: The remainder of this article contains spoilers for Jumanji: The Next Level.

As a reminder, at the end of Next Level, the animals escaped the game and entered our world. Therefore, it is likely that the next film will be set in our world. The plot is therefore very similar to that of the original film. It remains to be seen to what extent teenagers’ avatars can be introduced into the real world…
