Nurse posts photo of patient with exposed injuries and caption ‘I was more of a cook in my day’ and is fired from the largest hospital in RR | Roraima

One nurse was fired after posting a photo of a patient with exposed injuries on Instagram with the caption “I’m more of a cook on my day”. The image, recorded in the ICU of the General Hospital of Roraima (HGR), the largest in the state, had repercussions after being shared this Wednesday (8) on a social network profile.

In the image, she appears wearing gloves and holding gauze with a nursing student at her side. The State Department of Health (Sesau), responsible for HGR, regretted the nurse’s conduct and said that her contract was terminated.

“The Department of Health regrets this type of conduct and informs that the employee, who was part of the selected staff [temporário]his contract was terminated and the episode was reported to the Regional Nursing Council for action”, he commented in a post on social media.

To g1, Coren informed that it received the complaint and began the investigation procedures. “We regret that events like this may occur, however, all rights of full defense and adversary proceedings will be guaranteed to the professional involved in the case, as recommended by our normative acts.”

Sesau also demanded measures from the student’s educational institution. “It also informs that the other person, who is an academic, had the situation formally informed to the educational institution, with a request for action.”

Furthermore, HGR management issued a statement to employees warning about the ethical and legal implications of similar situations.

The image was posted in the nurse’s stories, someone took a printout and the image began to circulate on social media. The record showed a patient lying in bed, with exposed wounds on his arms and leg, close to the groin..

The fired professional commented on the profile that published the photo and asked Apologies “to anyone who felt offended”. He further said that “I made a mistake, I was unethical to the extreme and you don’t play with nursing!“.

“The unfortunate phrase was created because of a trend that says ‘a woman’s place is in the kitchen’ and as health is not an easy job (but I love it), the trend is complemented by the phrase ‘I’m more of a cook on my day’ , so much so that it is in quotation marks, as it is not my phrase”, he explained in the comment.

When contacted by g1, she reiterated her apology. “I accept the error, because unfortunately there was exposure, although I didn’t post his face or name, I shouldn’t have done so, and I would never knowingly do anything to harm my work. I apologized, I apologize again and I will ask as many times as necessary.”

Furthermore, the nurse said that “Sesau never gave an opportunity to clarify the facts.”

In relation to this, Sesu said that “the professional’s conduct violated the administrative principle of morality, in the face of inappropriate conduct, considering that the intimacy, private life, honor and image of patients admitted to the network’s hospitals are inviolable health status.”

“In this way, the dismissal took place in compliance with the notice of the selection process and legislation in force. Labor rights were guaranteed, with payment proportional to the days worked in the month of May, as well as 13th and proportional vacations”, detailed the secretariat .

Sesau highlighted that internal and ethical standards prevent the recording of images of hospitalized patients without due authorization or that could cause embarrassment to patients and family members.
