The Pernambuco Water and Climate Agency (Apac) issued, this Wednesday (8), a rain alert with moderate to heavy intensity for two regions of the state: Big Recife and the South Mata Zone. The alert is valid from Wednesday night until Thursday morning (9) and has the “attention state” risk level, which is the second most serious.

A area of North Forest and the Agreste of Pernambuco are in “observation status”, with moderate rain forecast for these two regions during the same period, also according to Apac.

  • This new rain forecast, like the previous one, was caused by the approach of the Eastern Wave Disturbance meteorological system, also called Eastern Waves;
  • East Waves are disturbances in the wind and pressure field that act in the tropical zone of the Earth and move from the coast of Africa to the east coast of Brazil;
  • In practice, what happens is the formation of rain clouds due to the circulation of wind currents that come from the African continent, pass through the Atlantic Ocean and reach the Northeast of Brazil;
  • This system should focus mainly on the Zona da Mata Sul of Pernambuco.

In Recife, the Civil Defense maintains a permanent duty and can be contacted via a free call to 0800.081.3400. Service is provided 24 hours a day.
