The Public Defender’s Office of the State of Tocantins (DPE-TO) awards the Medal of Honor to the Institution’s Merit to state and federal authorities who support and are institutional partners of the Public Defender’s Office in important programs and projects, among them, the Econúcleos of Tocantins and the “Itinerant Defender’s Office”. The ceremony will be held in the DPE-TO auditorium, in Palmas, this Friday, 10th, starting at 8:30 am, an opportunity in which the commemorative stamp will also be launched, in partnership with Os Correios, alluding to the 20 years of autonomy of the DPE-TO.

The Medal of Honor for Merit of the Public Defender’s Office is the Institution’s highest honor granted in public recognition and gratitude to people who contribute to the constitutional mission of the DPE-TO and cooperate in the expansion of the Public Defender’s Office. All honorees are institutional partners who collaborated with the strengthening of the Institution, which directly impacts the lives of people assisted by DPE-TO throughout the State.

Mayors with initiatives in their municipalities related to the work of DPE-TO will also receive public deference with the delivery of the Certificate of Solemn Thanks.

20 Years of Autonomy

Present and operating in Tocantins since the beginning of the State, DPE-TO celebrates its 20 years of autonomy in 2024, a time frame that occurred with Complementary Law No. 41, of December 22, 2004, which provides for the organization of the Public Defender’s Office. Public Office of the State of Tocantins, and adopts other measures.

Currently, Complementary Law No. 55/2009 is the disciplinary norm for the organization of the State Public Defender’s Office and consolidates the autonomy achieved in 2004.

The Institution chose May to begin activities commemorating 20 years of autonomy as it is the month in which National Public Defender’s Day and the Day of Public Defenders, Public Servants of the Institution are celebrated (May 19).
